The Masculinities for the Future of European Democracy (MEN4DEM) project was publically launched on Friday, January 31st at the University of Amsterdam’s Roeterseiland campus. The launch attracted a full room. The scientific coordinator, Dr. Liza Mügge, presented the project’s aims and visions. Dagmar Slagmolen, from the partnering theater group Via Berlin, offered a creative lens on the theme of masculinities. Finally, Dr. Ov Cristian Norocel (Lund University), Dr. Katarzyna Wojnicka (University of Gothenburg) and Aleks Dimitrijevic (MenEngage Europe) engaged in an inspiring roundtable discussion moderated by Dr. Dimitris Bouris (University of Amsterdam).

Scientific coordinator Liza Mügge comments: ‘Sadly this project is extremely topical. In the current global political climate patriarchal masculinity is brought back in at the expense of rights of, among others, women, queer and minoritized people. This urgency strengthens MEN4DEMs mission to contribute to change. Our alliance of artists, activists, and academics is ready to get to work.’
